“The mountains are calling and I must go.” – John Muir
I’d like to think that particular quote- full of longing for adventure, achievement, hard work and a sense of “I’ll handle it, come what may”- are the sentiments that have inspired this latest wave of modern mountain murals in nurseries and kid’s spaces. After all, isn’t that we would want our children to aspire to: To go forth and conquer? To sit amongst the highest highs on the planet and observe how quiet it is up there and how majestic nature can be? Plus, they’re the epitome of graphic, modern design and who wouldn’t want to wake up to that? I’m half inclined to paint a modern mountain mural in our room!
Here are seven amazing murals to inspire and aspire towards. Onwards and upwards!

This is amazing. Those green walls paired with teal mountains? That subtle pine tree mural? It’s adventure time, kids! Styling by Jessica Hanson. Photography by Amanda Prior. From InsideOut magazine via Poppytalk.

Here’s a little peachy mountain inspiration for a little girl’s room via Charlotte Love for Good Homes magazine, July 2013.

These bold and absolutely gorgeous gradient green mountains are the bomb. I love the charcoal wall colour too. Talk about making a statement! Via Wills Casa.

From artist Marie Willumsen, this is a whimsical take on the mountain mural. How cute is that floating Panda?

This neutral room with its lovely mountain scape comes from Henry Otto’s nursery by Erica Loesing via Lay Baby Lay. I love how the clouds and rain drops add a tactile element to the mural.

A different take on a neutral mural- Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl is the perfect backdrop to these snowy white gold-capped mountains from Curbly.

And finally, Emily Henderson, started off this trend (I think!) with this beautiful mountain mural for Joy Cho’s home office/nursery.

Until next time,
I think the top two are my faves 🙂 Such a big commitment to paint a mural though!
Laura, definitely a commitment, but so pretty too! Maybe just one wall instead of the whole room would be a good compromise.
