Ever heard the saying “Everything old is new again”? That certainly seems to be true with fashion and Fall 2016 was no exception. With backpacks, high-waisted mom jeans, pinafores, and the ubiquitous choker back in style, is it any surprise metallics are also making a comeback? Yup, metallic shine is back and in a big way! From Alexander McQueen to Dolce & Gabbana, Zara to ASOS, metallic accents and accessories are everywhere, and I can’t say I’m mad about it. I love metallics!
There’s something so nostalgic about glitter and frost, sparkle and shine, you know? It takes me back to playing dress up as a little girl when glitter was a must, and then onwards into my teen years when nail polish was my primary weapon to express my style. My all-time favourite metallic nail polish back then was Revlon Nail Enamel in Wild, a gorgeous green with gold undertones. Fact: It’s the only bottle of nail polish I’ve ever used up entirely!
Today, I’m paying homage to dressing up the grown up way (no pretending!) by showing you a few sleek, chic and sophisticated ways of adding metallic accents to your everyday wardrobe.

Shoes! But, of course, right? Shoes remain an obsession – and my favourite way – of adding interest to any outfit. Adding a pair of metallic heels or flats to an everyday casual outfit is on-trend, on-point, and so wearable! L: College Vintage, R: Walk in Wonderland

These are two great examples of working metallics into a a more eclectic wardrobe. I’ve always admired women who can mix and match patterns, prints and textures and make it look so effortless! L & R: College Vintage

The key to wearing metallics everyday, is learning to create balance so you don’t veer into disco diva territory, which is very much a look that belongs in the past! Mixing metallics with luxe fabrics like a black leather bomber jacket or a cashmere sweater is the perfect balancing act. Sophisticated, grown-up, and perfectly kick ass. L: Angel Robles Robles, R: Glamour Spain

Gold brocade pants, anyone? I love that they are paired with a simple white shirt, a three-quarter length Fall coat and that amazing black and white Chanel purse. Perfectly balanced but still makes a statement! If actual metallic fabrics aren’t your thing, you can try a faux metallic look with a lustrous gold velvet clutch. L: Waiting on Martha, R: The Fashion Eaters

Speaking of lustrous looks, this pink satin bomber is adorable and so much fun! Plus, it actually looks really comfortable too. I also love the rose gold backpack on the right. It’s a great way of adding a small pop of metallics if a full-on piece of clothing is too much for you. L: Zanita, R: Habitually Chic

Speaking of accents, don’t forget the smaller accessories- sunglasses and a metallic manicure are A+ ways to add sleek and chic style to your everyday look. They’re fairly neutral pieces too so they’re guaranteed to work with outfit after outfit, from day to night. L: Viva Luxury, R: Fashion Gone Rogue

And lastly, makeup! Easy, relatively affordable, and a million and one ways to add metallics to your everyday. There are a lot of beautiful beauty palettes out now with the prettiest metallic shades. This is my favourite of the four looks created for Freundin Magazine. Via WhoWhatWear.
