I’ll be honest with y’all right now: my October pretty much sucked. Instead of doing a round-up of the many ways in which things went horribly wrong, I thought today I’d choose to focus on the positives instead. For one, we are well into Fall. Everyone’s favourite fashion season, right? For another, velvet is trending and that’s all right by me. And lastly, to put flippancy aside for a second, the truth is, Real Life is messy and shit happens all the time, but the actual value in going through a terrible experience lies in recognizing how strong you are and how even terrible times pass. The most important thing is to continue giving thanks for all the good that remains. So, as Thanksgiving approaches, let me just start by thanking you for sticking around and for following along. Thank You for making this blog the space it has become and for returning time and time again. I appreciate you!
On to that velvet though. Below, I’ve rounded up a few of my favourite ways to wear velvet this season. It’s luxe, it’s decadent and all you need is one statement piece to take an outfit from mediocre to marvelous! As always, this week’s Shop is all about velvet too, so once you’re done gathering inspiration below, remember to pop over and shop some of your favourite pieces too!

It reallytrulyhonestly doesn’t get prettier, or more lust worthy, than this amazing fuchsia velvet Gucci purse. I mean, goddamnit. Via PurseBlog.

Dark red velvet boots are the perfect accessory to colour match, as with the sweater, or be that one perfect pop of colour in an otherwise monochrome outfit. Via College Vintage.

A gorgeous berry velvet dress is definitely not for the faint of heart, but not much streetstyle from Milan Fashion Week is! If you spot a velvet wrap dress, buy it because here’s a perfect way to style it. Via Style du Monde.

If you’re looking for a statement piece but also something really easy to wear, this burnished gold velvet blazer is the answer. Also a reminder that velvet comes in many luscious colours, so think beyond emerald green and berry tones. Via My Style Pill.

Who would have thought pairing a navy blue printed velvet shirt and that gorgeous matching purse would work so well with white pants? Loving this! Via Vogue.

I adore so many things about this look. 1. The layering is masterful. 2. That velvet skirt, obvs., 3. The pop of red, and 4. This whole outfit is hella comfortable and amen to that when you’re a boss lady running around town getting shit done. Who’s with me? Via Harper’s Bazaar.

This look mixes two on-key trends very well- the pleated skirt and velvet. I also like the desaturated colour of the skirt. It makes it much more wearable on a daily basis, don’t you think? Via Elle.

Copenhagen Fashion Week is definitely one I look forward to seeing photos from every year, and this look is a perfect example. You just wouldn’t see anyone in New York or Paris wearing something like this. I love these printed velvet pants! Via Vogue UK.
So what do you think? Will you be adding something lush and luxurious in velvet to your Fall and Winter wardrobe? Me, I’m leaning towards accessories more than clothing. Living in LA means Fall only lasts for literally five minutes and I love this trend far too much to only wear it for that long, you know?
Don’t forget to check out this week’s Shop to find the perfect velvet piece for yourself or your best friend!
Until next time,
Great post! I am loving velvet right now too, and agree on sticking with accessories for LA!
Meanwhile I need that skirt and purse from the first picture!!!!
