A Few Thoughts On Mixing Prints Like a Pro!

Published on March 1, 2020

When I look at my Daily Outfit Inspiration board on Pinterest, print mixing is the one thing that immediately jumps out at me. Spring is right around the corner and I feel like it’s the perfect season to introduce colour and pattern together into your closet. I don’t believe mixing prints has any “rules” per se- in fact, I think most rules get thrown out the window when it comes to this style specifically! Nonetheless, here are a few suggestions on how to mix prints like a pro.

Before you get into the street style and runway photos below, remember the beauty of print mixing is that it will never, ever look dated! It will not go out of style simply because there are endless possibilities around the colours and print combinations you can wear. It may be more popular at certain times than others but it is not a flash in the pan trend that you’ll only wear for one season. If you’ve been thinking about sustainability in fashion, this would be an excellent way of getting more wear out of your existing pieces. You can mix prints with your clothes, your accessories, or both at the same time. It is versatile, fun, playful, and something you can easily do in full colour or monochrome styles.

Go forth and be inspired, friends! Happy print mixing!

Is it just me or is cleaning basically a waste of time during the holidays/pandemic?? 🙈🤷🏻‍♀️ It literally never stays clean! They’re home ALL the time. My mom is very proud of me right now, I’m sure. 😆 #sofreshmyhome
SHADOWS AND LIGHT // If I had to choose one phrase SHADOWS AND LIGHT // If I had to choose one phrase to remember 2020 by it would be “Sharp contrasts”. We had our fair share of hard to believe moments and lots of jagged peaks and dips. BUT 2021 promises to be an entirely new chapter and I can’t wait to share everything with you soon! Happy New Year, friends! In the Year That Felt Like 10 Years, can you believe we finally made it to the end?? 😱🥳👏🏼#sofreshmyhome #greenrooms

FLASHBACK TO... // The days when the dining table FLASHBACK TO... // The days when the dining table was for actual eating and styling and not for remote schooling, bags of school supplies, and the occasional cat. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 How is your work/school-at-home space looking right now? #sofreshmyhome
WEEK 2 of the ORC // While we haven’t started an WEEK 2 of the ORC // While we haven’t started any kind of reno yet (the plan is to start this coming week!), lots of exciting things have happened in the powder room nonetheless. For one, the @luluandgeorgia rug has been ordered as has the stunning @sandbergwallpaper roll. Also, this beautiful gold hanger arrived from @hmhome and I’m definitely fitting it into the scheme. Mainly tho, I decided to use another piece of art from the amazing @atticapress and I am extremely excited to see this all come together! 🙌🏼😍 #oneroomchallenge #bhgorc @oneroomchallenge @betterhomesandgardens #sofreshmyhome
CANT DO IT // Not gonna lie, I’m having a real h CANT DO IT // Not gonna lie, I’m having a real hard time switching up this mantel decor. Every time I look at it, it brings my monochrome-loving heart so.much.joy! 😍 #sofreshmyhome
FLASHBACK FRI // Not only am I really missing havi FLASHBACK FRI // Not only am I really missing having a rug in here altho not missing this exact rug 🤣, I’m also really missing having this tree all alive and stuff, you know? It’s got guts, I won’t lie. It’s hanging on. But it is also looking very grim. 🤦🏻‍♀️ If I ever write a book, it’ll be called Plants: WTF? 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️ #sofreshmyhome

IT’S TIME! // I kinda can’t believe I’m doin IT’S TIME! // I kinda can’t believe I’m doing my first ever One Room Challenge! Eek! I am so excited! 👏🏼 This Powder Room Moodboard saw some major changes today as per usual haha. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 I’m very much a go-with-your-gut designer and my journey usually involves creating a board based on a mood and then veering off the path completely as I experiment and chase ideas, and then, happily, coming right back to the feel I started out with. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️ For this powder room, my inspo was heavily driven by my beloved Scandinavian design, this time veering into Swedish country house territory. Think thoughtful wallpaper and desaturated colours and of course a graphic pop because it is, after all, still my home. 😀 I can’t honestly say how the finished room will look- no doubt some things will change along the way (possibly the lighting? 🤔) but this is what’s in my head right now and I hope I can make it happen! 😍 The blog post with aaalll the details will be up tomorrow! 👉🏼 Now tell me what you think! #oneroomchallenge @oneroomchallenge @betterhomesandgardens #bhgorc
CHALLENGING TIMES AHEAD! // This is the face of a CHALLENGING TIMES AHEAD! // This is the face of a cat who has zero effs to give about the @oneroomchallenge unlike ME who signed up and is ready to makeover... our powder room!! 👏🏼🎉 Remember when I asked y’all to vote in my Stories? Well, our bedroom and the powder room were miles ahead in the poll AND tied, so it just came down to good old time and money. I can’t wait! I’m loving my moodboard and I think you will too! 😀🤟🏼 #sofreshmyhome #navyblueandprettytoo
