You guys! I did it- I entered my first ever One Room Challenge for Fall 2020 so that we can redesign our downstairs Powder Room! I’m extremely excited and also quite nervous, I won’t lie, BUT I do feel like we chose a good room for a first time, time-limited DIY challenge. It is fairly compact and won’t need any major structural changes. Those are sort of out of the question for us anyway as we are renters. This is also why I won’t unfortunately be able to touch the vanity although my golden-oak-hating-heart would LOVE to, hah.
Nonetheless, there is still a lot I can do so let’s get to the fun part…
The Design Board!
I CANNOT wait to see this powder room makeover come to life- I am in love with this whole situation! If you are familiar with Scandinavian Country House style, then I hope you’ll recognize it as the inspiration for this space. If not, in simple terms, think high contrast pieces juxtaposed with patterned “grandma” wallpaper and desaturated colours. This room, as per my usual style, will again be a mix of high and low pieces from a variety of my favourite brands.
And now for the Before photos…
Our powder room is on the main floor located under the stairs and the entry is right in the living room portion of our open concept space. This means it is used heavily by everyone from the children to guests. It is ripe for a makeover!

See that door? That’s the powder room!
Right now, this space is just visual clutter central. We’ve been living with it the last two years although I did make a half-hearted attempt at perking it up with the shelf and art. But… MEH. That is the exact word I would use to describe this space right now. Always keeping it real here haha.
That’s all for this week! Please follow me on Instagram as I post updates to this space, and I’ll also be posting an update to the blog next Thursday.
In the meantime, please check out the fab makeovers in progress every Wednesday by the featured designers and every Thursday by other guest participants in this ORC!
See you next week!
P.S.: And if you’re interested, here’s a previous Powder Room Makeover I did in a previous rental home.
